Edmonton Home Safety

At Residential Maintenance Services Inc, we take care to confirm that any safety equipment around your home is working properly. This ranges from smoke detectors to

backwater valves to GFCI/AFCI.

A safe home is a happy home, so we are proud to offer

the following services to ensure that you, your family

and your home are safe and secure:

Detectors and Extinguishers

Every home should be equipped with fire extinguishers,

smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

To ensure that your family is kept safe, these components should be inspected on a regular basis to ensure that they are functioning properly.

Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors should have their batteries replaced annually. Both of these alarm systems have a lifespan, so it’s important to inspect their age and change them when appropriate.

Fire extinguishers should be checked by a professional at least once a year to make sure they are operational.

Don’t leave your family’s safety to change - have one of our inspectors check these items in your home on a regular basis!

GFCI and AFCI Operation

Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlets and arc fault circuit interrupters (AFCIs) are designed to reduce the risk of shock, electrocution and electrical fire in your home.

Because electricity will always try to find a way to the ground, it’s important to safeguard the wiring in your home to prevent arcing and ground faults.

GFCIs contain a sensor that monitors the flow of electricity and when it senses a ground fault, will shut off that flow to the outlet.  Thereby, reducing serious serious injury to the homeowner  These outlets are serviced, repaired and maintained by our expert team at RMS.

Ensure your AFCIs and GFCIs are functioning properly by having RMS inspect this component.

Backwater Valves and Sump Pumps

Sewage backups can easily happen, especially when heavy rains overload your home’s sewage system.

Backwater valves and sump pumps are useful pieces of equipment to keep excess water and sewage from coming back into your home.

However, if either the backwater valve or sump pump ceases to operate properly, the resulting flood of water and sewage can lead to a messy cleanup and costly repair.

Ensure your sump pump and backwater valves are functioning to their full potential by having one of our experts inspect their condition.

Overhead Garage and Man Doors

All garage doors manufactured after 1993 are required to have an automatic reverse feature. Known as a garage door sensor, this feature is designed to reverse if it senses an obstruction in the doorway.

Likewise, code in many areas requires an entry door attached to your garage to be “fire-rated” with a self-closing hinge. This helps to keep a garage fire from spreading into your home and ensures that the door closes fully thereby reducing any carbon monoxide from entering the house when a car is left running in a garage. These life-saving and injury-avoiding technologies are great - when they work.

Keep your home up-to-code by having your garage door and self-closing hinges inspected by our team at RMS.

SMART Home Monitoring Systems

SMART home systems are continually evolving.  We have several options available today:

  • Security systems

  • Pre Programmable mechanical systems

  • Programmable lighting systems

All of these systems are designed to keep your home safe and comfortable.  But as with all new technologies comes the challenge of maintaining them to ensure that they work as designed.

Ensure that your SMART home functions as it was designed by having our experts at RMS inspect your system and home.
